Gauhar recounts the fascinating story of one of the classical superstars of her time. A fiery, feisty, independent minded woman of her generation, who was the first to break tradition and sing Indian classical music on a wax record. A naturally gifted musician, whose personal life was as mesmerising as her professional one, she sang in 20 languages and cut close to 600 records in her lifetime. Gauhar lays bare her life with all its myths and legends, with humour and deep insight, and introduces a new generation to her story and music, which is still sung.
