A Tribute to Legendary Indian Composers
Friday, 23rd to Sunday, 25th August – 6.30 pm

Indian music centres around well-structured melodic and rhythmic compositions known as bandish. It represents a central idea or base upon which the edifice of a performance is sculpted and realised. The three-day festival will showcase some of the most treasured works of the great composers, presented by eminent artistes.

23rd August
Bhuvanesh Komkali
Kaushiki Chakrabarty
(approx. 150 mins)

Having trained with his father, Mukul Shivputra, and grandparents, the legendary Kumar Gandharva and Vasundhara Komkali, Bhuvanesh Komkali will present some iconic compositions of Kumar Gandharva, whose eclectic works have influenced artistes across gharanas. Jnan Prakash Ghosh was one of the most prolific composers whose works ranged from classical and light music to modern, orchestral and choral music. Kaushiki Chakrabarty will present some immortal compositions attributed to him. She will also include in her recital thumri and dadra compositions of the legendary Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (Sabrang).
