Classic Themes in Thumri-Kathak by Dhanashree Pandit Rai & Aditi Bhagwat
An NCPA Presentation
Dhanashree Pandit Rai is one of the foremost vocalists of Indian music today and has established herself as one of the leading exponents of the thumri gayaki. Aditi Bhagwat is an ‘A’ grade artiste of the Doordarshan Kendra and impanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. In this presentation, Dhanashree and Aditi together will trace the journey of the two sister arts – Thumri and Kathak, across time through solo and jugalbandi sequences covering a wide spectrum of their intertwined history: traditional compositions of Wajid Ali Shah himself and masters like Bindadin Maharaj; themes of Panghat, Sawan, Hori, Baramasa, the nayikas and rasas; bhaav in thumri and Kathak and most importantly – their journey from the kotha to the concert stage.
