Timeless Melodies: celebrating the genius of Manna Dey
with Shrirang Bhave & group
Compere: Amit Kakade
This thematic presentation has been designed to enable uninitiated listeners to enjoy and appreciate the rich raga legacy of Hindustani music by associating a particular raga with a corresponding raga-based film song.
The song-selection is based on nazms and ghazals immortalized by the legendary playback singer, Prabodh Chandra Dey, popularly known as Manna Dey (1919-2013). Although synonymous with raga-based classical songs in Hindi and Bangla films, his golden voice was also known to excel in all music genres. The body of his work includes over 3500 songs in 16 Indian languages.
Having trained in classical, semi-classical and light music as well as Marathi natya-sangeet, Shrirang Bhave chose to pursue his passion forsaking a career in pharmacology. Today, he has established himself as a versatile singer; lending his voice for popular films like Balagandharva and Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, besides performing live at various musical shows.
