Have you always wanted to learn about Indian music but did not know where to start? Have you wanted to be an informed listener of Indian music? We offer a special opportunity for uninitiated adults and working professionals to familiarise themselves with the fundamental concepts of melody, rhythm, composition, improvisation and various instruments in the context of Hindustani (North Indian) music. It is designed to combine instruction with live demonstration as well audio and video recordings. The course will be conducted in English/Hindi in two sessions of three hours each. Participants will also receive written material on the subject. Suvarnalata Rao is a disciple of Arvind Parikh, an eminent sitar exponent of the Etawah-Imdadkhani gharana. Praveen Karkare has trained in tabla under exponents Sadashiv Pawar, Sudhir Mainkar and Sudhirkumar Saxena representing the Lucknow-Farukhabad, Delhi and Ajrada gharanas respectively. Live demonstrations (vocal) will be by Soumya Ullal, a graded artiste of AIR.
